Martha

Martha is introduced alongside Mary as one of Lazarus's sisters, a woman of deep faith who will later rush out to meet Jesus while her brother lies four days dead.

Martha is characteristically serving at the dinner — her practical devotion expressed in action while her sister Mary expresses it through extravagant sacrifice.

Martha is overwhelmed by the work of hosting Jesus and confronts him directly, frustrated that her sister has left her to manage everything alone — her complaint becomes the occasion for Jesus' gentle correction.
