A Levitical city of Issachar allotted to the Gershonite line
Jezreel ValleyAnem was a town of the tribe of Issachar set apart as a Levitical city for the Gershonite Levites: "And out of the tribe of Issachar; Kedesh and her suburbs, Daberath and her suburbs, And Ramoth and her suburbs, and Anem and her suburbs" (1 Chronicles 6:72-73). The parallel Levitical-cities list in Joshua 21:28-29 names Issachar's cities as Kishion, Daberath, Jarmuth, and En-gannim — a slightly different list, with Anem and Ramoth in Chronicles standing in for Jarmuth and En-gannim in Joshua. The exact location of Anem is uncertain; it may be the same site as En-gannim, with the names representing different traditions or different periods of the same Issachar settlement.
