A Shephelah town in Judahs tribal inheritance named twice in Joshuas catalog
ShephelahAshnah was the name of two distinct towns in the tribal inheritance of Judah listed in Joshua 15: the first appears in verse 33 in the Shephelah district between Zorah and Eshtaol: "And in the valley, Eshtaol, and Zorah, and Ashnah." The second appears in verse 43 in another inner Shephelah cluster: "And Iphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib." Whether these were two separate sites or a scribal duplication has been debated since antiquity. Both sites lay in the foothills west of the Judean hill country in the contested borderlands with the Philistines.
