A Danite town Solomon refortified as part of his southern defensive ring
ShephelahBaalath was a town in the tribal inheritance of Dan (Joshua 19:44) that King Solomon later refortified as part of his comprehensive defensive ring (1 Kings 9:17-18): "Solomon built Gezer, and Beth-horon the nether, And Baalath, and Tadmor in the wilderness." Together with Gezer and the Beth-horons, Baalath formed part of the western defensive arc guarding the approaches to Jerusalem from the coastal plain. Its strategic position controlled one of the main passes from the Mediterranean coast into the central highlands.
