A Benjaminite settlement in the catalog of the tribes inheritance
BenjaminChephar-ammoni ("village of the Ammonite") was one of the twelve cities of the tribe of Benjamin named in Joshua 18:24: "And Chephar-haammonai, and Ophni, and Gaba; twelve cities with their villages." The town appears only in this single boundary list. The name preserves the memory of an earlier Ammonite presence — perhaps a village settled by displaced Ammonites or a former Ammonite frontier outpost that was later absorbed into the Benjaminite tribal territory. The exact site is uncertain but lay in the central Benjamin highlands north of Jerusalem.
