A city in the Lycus valley evangelized by Epaphras alongside Colossae and Laodicea
Asia MinorHierapolis was a Phrygian city in the Lycus valley of western Asia Minor, evangelized by Epaphras during the apostle Paul's long Ephesian ministry: "For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis" (Colossians 4:13). The city was famous for its hot springs and travertine terraces (the modern site of Pamukkale, Turkey), making it a major Roman spa center. Tradition holds that the apostle Philip ended his ministry at Hierapolis and was buried there — a martyrium church marking the traditional site still stands.
