Kartan

Kartan appears once in Scripture as one of three Levitical cities given by the tribe of Naphtali to the Gershonite Levites: "And out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Hammoth-dor with her suburbs, and Kartan with her suburbs; three cities" (Joshua 21:32). The parallel catalog at 1 Chronicles 6:76 names the same site Kiriathaim, reflecting the variant traditions preserved in the Levitical-city lists. The town lay somewhere in upper Galilee within Naphtali's tribal territory, though the exact site remains unidentified by archaeology.
