A Canaanite town in the coastal plain that the tribe of Zebulun failed to drive out at the conquest
GalileeKitron appears once in Scripture in the catalog of Israelite tribal failures to complete the conquest: "Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries" (Judges 1:30). The verse is part of the larger Judges 1 indictment that recurringly documents each tribe's partial obedience to the divine command of total dispossession — a failure the book then traces directly to the spiritual decline of the judges era. Some rabbinic tradition identifies Kitron with Zippori (Sepphoris), though most modern scholars locate it further west toward the coastal plain of Acco.
