A boundary marker on the northern frontier of Issachars tribal inheritance between Tabor and Beth-shemesh
GalileeShahazumah appears once in Scripture as a boundary point on the northern frontier of Issachar's tribal allotment: "And the coast reacheth to Tabor, and Shahazimah, and Beth-shemesh; and the outgoings of their border were at Jordan: sixteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Issachar according to their families, the cities and their villages" (Joshua 19:22-23). The town lay in the upper Jordan Valley between Mount Tabor and the Beth-shemesh of Naphtali (distinct from the Judean Beth-shemesh of Samuel's ark return). The location is identified with Khirbet el-Khanazir on the route from the Jezreel Valley to the Jordan crossing.
