A Canaanite city-state whose king Joshua defeated in the northern conquest sweep also referenced simply as Shimron
GalileeShimron-meron appears once in Scripture in the conquest victory catalog of Joshua 12: "The king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one; The king of Shimron-meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one" (Joshua 12:19-20). The town was the head of one of the thirty-one Canaanite city-states Joshua and Israel defeated west of the Jordan. The simpler form "Shimron" reappears in Joshua 11:1 (where the king of Shimron joined the northern coalition under Jabin of Hazor at the Waters of Merom) and Joshua 19:15 (within Zebulun's tribal inheritance). The site is commonly identified with Tel Shimron (Khirbet Sammuniyeh) on the northern edge of the Jezreel Valley.
