One of the five Amorite kings defeated by Joshua at Makkedah — Judean Shephelah city
ShephelahHistorically Verified
Khirbet el-Yarmuk (Tel Yarmut) in the Judean lowlands. Excavations since 1980 have uncovered one of the largest Early Bronze Age fortified cities ever found in the southern Levant.
One of the five Amorite city-states whose king Piram joined the coalition against Gibeon. After Joshua's miraculous victory and the hailstones from heaven, Piram fled with the other four kings and hid in the cave at Makkedah (Joshua 10:3, 5, 23). Joshua executed all five kings and Jarmuth itself was captured during the southern campaign (Joshua 10:33; 12:11). It was allotted to Judah's lowland territory (Joshua 15:35) and resettled by returning exiles (Nehemiah 11:29).
