Cave where Joshua sealed the five Amorite kings — base camp for the southern campaign
ShephelahHistorically Verified
Most scholars identify it with Khirbet el-Qom in the Judean lowlands, though the specific cave from the story hasn't been pinpointed.
A city in the Judean Shephelah where Joshua trapped the five Amorite kings in a cave after the battle of Gibeon (Joshua 10:16-27). After executing the kings, Joshua sealed the cave with large stones — stones the narrator notes were still there "to this day." Israel's army camped at Makkedah during the southern campaign, and the city itself was captured the same day. Listed among Judah's lowland towns in Joshua 15:41.
