A town in Judahs second Shephelah district allotment listed beside Hadashah and Migdal-gad
ShephelahZenan appears once in Scripture in Joshua's catalog of Judah's second Shephelah district: "Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdal-gad, And Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel, Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon" (Joshua 15:37-39). The cluster of sixteen lowland towns occupied the western Judean foothills between Lachish and the Philistine coastal plain — small frontier settlements that bore the brunt of every Philistine incursion in the judges and monarchy eras. Zenan may be identical with the Zaanan named in Micah's sweeping lament (Micah 1:11), where the prophet plays punningly on the name. The exact location remains unidentified.
